The new romcom musical HOT MESS will transfer to London, it has been announced.

Created by the award-winning creative duo behind 42 Balloons, the pop musical reimagines the climate crisis as a tempestuous relationship between Earth and Humanity. HOT MESS will run at Southwark Playhouse Elephant this October, following its Edinburgh Festival Fringe run.

Leading the production are acclaimed West-End stars Danielle Steers (SIX The Musical, The Cher Show) as Earth and Tobias Turley (winner – ITV’s Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream) as Humanity.

HOT MESS tells a story of love, hope and the ultimate break-up. After a billion years of bad dates, Earth’s finally found the one… Humanity. Sparks fly. Wheat is harvested. Technology flourishes. But what begins as a passionate love affair between the universe’s most iconic couple quickly descends into a HOT MESS.

HOT MESS will by directed by Ellie Coote, featuring sound design by Paul Gatehouse, musical supervisor & co-orchestrations by Joe Beighton, co-orchestrations by Jack Godfrey, movement direction by Alexzandra Sarmiento, set & costume design by Shankho Chaudhuri, lighting design by Ryan Joseph Stafford, musical direction by Issie Osborne, dramaturgy by Deirdre O’Halloran, intimacy direction by Lex Kaby, associate sound design by Charlie Smith, costume supervision by Caroline Mirfin, produced by James Ashfield, executive produced by Vicky Graham for Vicky Graham Productions, assistant producer Finlay Carroll, Stage One trainee producer Callie Barter, deputy stage management by Emily Humphrys, production management by Christopher Ball and Emily Obasohan with casting by Pearson Casting CDG.

HOT MESS is the first production from the UK’s only in-house New Musical Theatre Department at Birmingham Hippodrome to transfer to London.

HOT MESS is produced by Birmingham Hippodrome. It was commissioned by Vicky Graham Productions who co-produce in partnership with Aria Entertainment / TRW Production. The principal supporter of HOT MESS is Charles Holloway.

HOT MESS has a book by Ellie Coote, with music & lyrics by Jack Godfrey.

HOT MESS will play Edinburgh Festival Fringe at Pleasance Courtyard, running from 30th July – 25th August 2025, and then Southwark Playhouse Elephant, running from 16th October – 8th November 2025, with tickets on sale now.
