⭐ WEST SIDE STORY REVIVAL ANNOUNCED FOR NYMT ⭐
A brand-new revival of the iconic musical WEST SIDE STORY has been announced for NYMT.
The National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT) has announced its 50th anniversary season, unveiling an ambitious line-up of projects that celebrate half a century of nurturing the next generation of musical theatre talent.
A major highlight will be a bold new production of the timeless classic WEST SIDE STORY, performed by a 70-strong young company and co-produced with The Stephen Sondheim Society.
As part of the upcoming season, NYMT returns to the Birmingham Hippodrome, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing exceptional young talent while celebrating the vibrant future of musical theatre.
From the first notes to the final breath, WEST SIDE STORY is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time. Arthur Laurents’ book remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. The score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim is widely regarded as one of the best ever written. The world’s greatest love story takes to the streets in this landmark Broadway musical that is one of the theatre’s finest accomplishments.
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City, as two young idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the “American” Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time.
WEST SIDE STORY is based on a conception of Jerome Robbins, with a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Berstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
WEST SIDE STORY will play the Patrick Studio, Birmingham Hippodrome, running from 6th – 8th August 2026.
This sounds EPIC! ! !
