The setlist for the finalists of The Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year 2023 has been revealed.

The Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year competition – affectionately known as SSSSPOTY – is back for its 15th year! Once again, the best young performers from across the UK assemble in the Sondheim Theatre for an afternoon celebrating the legendary composer-lyricist… and one of them will be crowned the Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year!

The 12 finalists & songs they are performing are:

Sara Bartos (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) – “Stay With Me” from Into The Woods and “Stand” by Dominic Powell.

Emily Botnen (Royal Academy of Music) – “Everybody Loves Louis” from Sunday in the Park with George and “Watchin’ the Door” by Caroline Wigmore & Jen Green.

Lucy Carter (Royal Academy of Music) – “I Remember” from Evening Primrose and “Has Anybody Seen Man Ray?” by Jason Carr.

Harry Lake (Guildford School of Acting) – “If You Can Find Me, I’m Here” from Evening Primrose and “My Day” by Alex James Ellison.

Josh Lewindon (Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama) – “Multitudes of Amys” cut from Company and “They Don’t Make Glass Slippers” by George Stiles & Anthony Drewe.

Ritesh Manugula (Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama) – “Flag Song” cut from Assassins and “I’ll Write a Song for You” by Alex James Ellison.

Tom O’Kelly (Royal Academy of Music) – “Take Me To The World” from Evening Primrose and “Just Imagine” by Caroline Wigmore & Jen Green.

Emily Ridge (Leeds Conservatoire) – “Broadway Baby” from Follies and “That Rainy Day” by Craig Adams.

Pétur Svavarsson (Royal Academy of Music) – “I Wish I Could Forget You” from Passion and “Burst Through Life” by Dominic Powell.

Isobel Twist (Bristol Old Vic Theatre School) – “Losing My Mind” from Follies and “Nobody” by George Stiles & Anthony Drewe.

Harry Warburton (Guildford School of Acting) – “Class” from Saturday Night and “Infinity” by Sarah Middleton & Josh Sneesby.

Milly Willows (Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts) – “Worst Pies in London” from Sweeney Todd and “A Story Of My Own” by Michael Webborn & Daniel Finn.

The competition will also have special guest performers, including host Alex Young, George Kemp, 2022 winner Desmonda Cathabel, Toby Owers, Madeleine Morgan, Thomas Oxley, Rhashan Stone, Ellie Nunn and featuring the NYMT Ensemble.

The gala final of The Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year will take place at the Sondheim Theatre, on 11th June 2023, with tickets on sale now.
