⭐ STEPHEN SONDHEIM’S A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM – PARISIAN PREMIER ANNOUNCED FOR LIDO 2 PARIS ⭐
Stephen Sondheim’s musical A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM will make its Parisian premier later this year, it has been announced.
A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM will be performed in Paris for the very first time in its original version (surtitled in French), for the grand reopening of the Lido 2 Paris.
The famous cabaret venue, previously known as The Lido, reopened last year with the new owners repositioning it as a musical theatre venue. It opened with their critically-acclaimed production of Cabaret, which starred Sam Buttery, Lizzy Connolly, Oliver Dench, Sally Ann Triplett & more.
The Lido 2 Paris is currently undergoing extensive renovations but will reopen at the end of the year.
Inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus (254–184 BC), specifically Pseudolus, Miles Gloriosus, and Mostellaria, the musical tells the bawdy story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door.
This new production will be directed by Cal McCrystal, featuring set design by Tim Hatley. Casting and further creatives to be announced.
A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM has music & lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, with a book by Burt Shevelove & Larry Gelbart.
A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM will play the Lido 2 Paris, running from 1st December 2023 – 4th February 2024, with tickets on sale now.
