⭐ RUMOUR – ELTON JOHN & TIM RICE’S AIDA REVIVAL – WEST END PREMIERE SET FOR EARLY 2024 ⭐
The brand new revival of Elton John & Tim Rice’s Aida is reportedly set to open in the West End, early 2024, it is rumoured.
In a recent article about Tim Rice, Billboard states that: “… In early 2024, a new production of Aida will make its UK/West End debut… “.
No official announcement has yet been made but the world premiere of the reworked and updated production is set for April 2023 in the Netherlands, with Rice previously revealing that there are plans for this revival to come to London after.
The updated version of Aida will differ in a number of respects from the original production, with the iconic music and lyrics by Sir Elton John (The Lion King, Billy Elliot) and Tim Rice (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita) remaining the same, but the creative team, led by director Schele Williams, will give the musical a contemporary feel without compromising its original quality.
Aida is a compelling tale of star-crossed lovers belonging to feuding nations, torn between their conflicted loyalties to their countries and to each other. With its stirring contemporary score and its powerful love story, Aida reveals that we have the power to change history, but only when we make brave choices and embrace our destiny.
The revival will feature a revised book by Tony Award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang.
The Tony Award-winning design team of Bob Crowley (set & costume design) and Natasha Katz (lighting design) will also return to reinterpret their original designs.
Aida will be directed by Schele Williams, with choreography by Camille A. Brown and musical supervision by Tony Award-winning Jason Michael Webb.
