A new stage musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches has been announced for the National Theatre.

Deadline have revealed the new musical will premiere at the National Theatre’s Olivier Theatre this November.

Featuring a book and lyrics by playwright Lucy Kirkwood, with music and lyrics by Dave Molloy (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812).

The cast will feature Katherine Kingsley as the Grand High Witch, with Daniel Rigby, Julie Armstrong, Chrissie Bhima, Zoe Burkett, Daniele Coombe, Molly-May Gardiner, Tiffany Graves, Tania Mathurin, Jacob Maynard, Laura Medforth and Ben Redfern.

The Witches tells the story of a young boy who happens upon a group of witches intent on exterminating all children through various spells and curses, from placing them in paintings to feeding them chocolate that turns them to mice. Anjelica Huston starred as the Grand High Witch in the 1990 film adaptation.
