NEXT DOOR’S BABY REVIVAL ANNOUNCED FOR THEATRE AT THE TABARD

⭐ NEXT DOOR’S BABY REVIVAL ANNOUNCED FOR THEATRE AT THE TABARD ⭐

A revival of the musical play Next Door’s Baby has been announced for Theatre At The Tabard.

1950’s Dublin, and two families living in adjoining terraced houses, become locked in a bitter matriarchal feud about a Bonny Baby competition run by the local newspaper.

Mrs O’Brien is widowed, hard-up, but ferociously proud of her five children – Dickie, Orla, Sheila, Larry and little Conor, the baby who will put their name in lights. She is icily polite to ‘her next door’, Mrs Hennessy, whose lifestyle is one of ease. Against a traditionally Irish backdrop, where respectability is all and you judge a woman by the dazzling whiteness of her net curtains, each family nurses a secret; one that could unite them or tear them apart. It’s only on the eve of the Bonny Baby final that we discover their fate.

First performed at the Orange Tree Theatre in 2008, this new Take Note Theatre production is the first revival of this witty and poignant musical play.

In June 2022 Take Note Theatre was awarded the lease to operate the Theatre above The Tabard pub. Take Note Theatre was established in 2018 by Simon Reilly and Sarah Reilly and brings together established and emerging theatre talent to bring new and classic stories to the stage.

Starring Jackie Pulford as Mrs O’Brien, Logan McQuillan as Larry, Abigail Williams as Mrs Hennessy, Sam Woodhams as Conrad, Amber Deasy as Orla, Shaylyn Gibson as Miriam, Hayley-Jo Murphy as Sheila and Ben Hannigan as Dickie.

Directed by Keith Strachan, musical direction by Beth Jerem, set design by Hazel Owen and costume design by Alice McNicholas and choreography by Hayley-Jo Murphy. Produced by Simon Reilly & Sarah Reilly for Take Note Theatre.

Next Door’s Baby has a book by Bernie Gaughan, with music & lyrics by Matthew Strachan.

Next Door’s Baby will play Theatre At The Tabard, running from 4th – 27th May 2023, with tickets on sale now.
