Actor Lucy Penrose has been cast as Everest Macdonald in an innovative new collaboration with Sunday Times bestselling author A.J. West, it has been announced.
Theatre meets publishing as Lucy Penrose has been cast to bring the real life Everest Macdonald to life, across multiple mediums, for A.J. West’s latest novel THE DEADLY INHERITANCE OF EVEREST MACDONALD.
In what is believed to be a publishing first, Penrose will embody Everest across the entire world of the book through filmed performances, photography, publicity, appearances and the audiobook itself.
THE DEADLY INHERITANCE OF EVEREST MACDONALD tells the story of one of British theatre’s most notorious real life mysteries.
Set in 1917, it follows the real life Everest as she investigates the murder of her uncle, celebrated Victorian actor William Terriss, who was stabbed to death outside London’s Adelphi Theatre in 1897. Twenty years later, Everest is drawn back into theatrical London when evidence emerges suggesting the man convicted of her uncle’s murder may not have been guilty after all.
Penrose commented: “Everest feels less like a character I’ve narrated and much more like a role I’ve genuinely been cast to play. I’ve filmed as her, been photographed as her and spent days in the studio telling the story through her voice. Now I get to take her out into the world… As an actor, there’s something incredibly special about playing a real woman whose story is so entwined with British theatre history. Over a century later, I am so overjoyed to get to put a face and voice to Everest and introduce her story to a whole new audience.”
Penrose currently stars as Rizzo in Grease – The Immersive Movie Musical at Evolution London. Her credits also include Ancient Grease at The Vaults, Young Judy Garland in Judy! at the Arts Theatre, Southwark Playhouse and London Hippodrome, and HBO’s Watchmen.
