⭐ DARK OF THE MOON – A NEW MUSICAL – WORLD PREMIERE – CAST ANNOUNCEMENT ⭐
The full cast for the world premiere of new musical DARK OF THE MOON has been announced.
Based on the classic 1941 play by Howard D Richardson and William Berney, DARK OF THE MOON will premiere at the Charing Cross Theatre this Spring.
DARK OF THE MOON is a supernatural tale of powerful witchcraft, small-town prejudices and the power of love.
This timeless, spellbinding new musical portrays the clash of two dynamically polarized worlds—a charming rural Appalachian town and the mystical world of witches and warlocks from the Smoky Mountains that loom high above. The show’s unique musical score reflects those conflicting worlds using a thrilling blend of country/bluegrass and rock.
Barbara Allen – a human girl and John – a curious witch-boy – find each other and defy their communities to build a life together. But will love conquer all – or will they be haunted by a deal that was made by the dark of the moon?
Joining the previously announced duo of Lauren Jones as Barbara Allen and Glenn Adamson as John, are Josie Benson as Conjur Woman, Gary Turner as Conjur Man, Al Knott as Raven, Appolilly Szwarc as Arwen and Jordan Broatch as Devin.
Also starring Sue Appleby as Gemma Allen, Thomas-Lee Kidd as Thomas Allen, Wills Mercado as Floyd Allen, Sophia Duncan as Ella Bergen, Gemma Maclean as Patricia Bergen and Martin Callaghan as Preacher Haggler.
Featuring David-Michael Johnson as Mr. Wharton, Samuel Murray as Marvin Hudgens, Kiah Lindsay as Grace/Katie, Will Foggin, Vieve Hamilton and Nick Wyschna as onstage swings.
Originally written by Howard Richardson and William Berney while students at the University of Iowa in the early 1940s, the play DARK OF THE MOON is loosely inspired by the traditional Scottish ballad Barbara Allen. The story has recently re-entered the cultural conversation through references in the Stranger Things stage play The First Shadow and the final season of the hit Netflix series.
Directed by Georgie Rankcom, DARK OF THE MOON has a book by Emmy Award nominee Jonathan Prince and music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winning and multi-platinum songwriters Lindy Robbins, Dave Bassett and Steve Robson.
Also featuring choreography by Jane McMurtrie, musical supervision by Brad Haak, musical direction by Matt Herbert, orchestrations by Dillon Kondor, casting direction by Peter Noden, production design by Libby Todd, lighting design by Jonathan Chan and sound design by Andrew Johnson.
DARK OF THE MOON will play the Charing Cross Theatre, London, running from 18th May – 8th August 2026, with tickets on sale now.
