⭐ CANDIDE IN CONCERT – TO BE STREAMED ONLINE FOR FREE – STARRING ROB HOUCHEN & KATIE HALL ⭐
A concert performance of Leonard Bernstein’s Candide will be streamed online for free, it has been announced.
The Grange Festival’s 2018 semi-staged production commemorated the composer’s 100th birthday.
Starring Richard Suart, Rob Houchen, Katie Hall, Charles Rice, Rosemary Ashe, Kitty Whately and Robert Murray.
Accompanied by The Grange Festival Chorus and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
Candide is an operetta with music composed by Leonard Bernstein, based on the 1759 novella of the same name by Voltaire.
When young Candide’s marriage offer to a baron’s daughter backfires, the naïve student of optimism is hurled into an eye-opening journey around the globe, discovering the horrors of existence at every step.
Turning Voltaire’s Candide, a stinging blast against tyranny and feigned moralising, into toe-wiggling musical theatre is a crazy idea. Bernstein revised his operetta countless times before settling on the final version.
The concert will be available to stream from 5th June (6pm BST) until 3rd July 2020.
