⭐ CANDIDATES – A NEW MUSICAL BY GUS GOWLAND ANNOUNCED FOR GSA ⭐
Gus Gowland’s new musical CANDIDATES will premiere as part of GSA’s Spring 2024 season, it has been announced.
CANDIDATES is a pop-style, romantic, new musical comedy set in an American high school/college. Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing is transported to a modern-day high school election as two hopeful candidates find themselves competing for the class presidency, and end up winning much more than they bargained for.
This live production features MFA Musical Theatre students in collaboration with BA Theatre Production and MA Stage Management Students.
The production will be directed by Julian Woolford, featuring musical direction by Alex Cawley and movement direction by Rachel Birch-Lawson.
Gus Gowland is an award-winning writer and composer, best known for the award-winning musical Pieces of String, for which he won The Stage Debut Award for Best Composer/Lyricist. His most recent works include the song cycle Lifeboats, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community, was performed at the Kings Head Theatre in London as part of the MT Pride season in 2023 and his second full-length musical Mayflies premiered at York Theatre Royal, to great acclaim.
CANDIDATES is a new musical by Gus Gowland, suggested by Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare.
CANDIDATES will play at Rex Doyle Studio Theatre, Ivy Arts Centre, Guildford, running from 22nd – 24th February 2024, with tickets on sale now.
