A brand-new UK revival of CALENDAR GIRLS – THE MUSICAL has been announced.
Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre has announced its first summer production for 2026 – CALENDAR GIRLS – THE MUSICAL.
The much-loved show about a group of Yorkshire women who create a fabulous and funny fundraising calendar after the death of one of their husbands is by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth. It will be directed by the SJT’s Artistic Director, Paul Robinson.
The show is a co-production with Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake, the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich and the Octagon Theatre Bolton, and will play at those theatres after opening in Scarborough in late June.
The death of a much-loved husband prompts a group of ordinary women in a small Yorkshire Women’s Institute to do something extraordinary: create a nude calendar to raise money for charity.News spreads fast in their community and none of them expect the emotional and personal repercussions, but gradually the making of the fabulous and funny calendar brings each woman unexpectedly into bloom.
The true story of the Calendar Girls launched a global phenomenon, a million copycat calendars, a record-breaking movie, a West End play and now an awarding-winning musical.
This new production will be directed by Paul Robinson, featuring set & costume design by Helen Coyston, composer & sound design by Simon Slater, musical direction & associate direction by Alex Weatherhill and choreography by Stephanie Dattani.
CALENDAR GIRLS – THE MUSICAL has music & lyrics by Gary Barlow and lyrics by Tim Firth. Based on the play CALENDAR GIRLS written by Tim Firth, and the motion picture CALENDAR GIRLS written by Tim Firth & Juliette Towhidi. Originally produced by David Pugh & Dafydd Rogers and The Shubert Organisation.
CALENDAR GIRLS – THE MUSICAL will play the Stephen Joseph Theatre from 27th June – 25th July 2026, Theatre by the Lake from 6th August – 5th September 2026, New Wolsey Theatre from 10th – 26th September 2026, and Octagon Theatre Bolton from 8th – 31st October 2026.
