Beauty and the Beast is returning to the stage, it has been confirmed.

I previously reported whispers of its return to the West End and now we have a tantalising update that may confirm those rumours.

Thomas Schumacher, President of The Disney Theatrical Group, was interviewed by The New York Times where he revealed that “… A new production of Beauty and the Beast, with the same creative team that worked on the 1994 original, is slated to open overseas next spring and in the United States in 2022…”

Now, there was no confirmation that overseas is the West End but it adds up with previous reports. I’m keeping everything crossed until that is clarified.

Beauty and the Beast is a musical with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and book by Linda Woolverton. Adapted from Walt Disney Pictures’ Academy Award-winning 1991 animated musical film of the same name.
