The musical adaptation of Frank McCourt’s bestselling memoir – Angela’s Ashes will be streamed online, it has been announced.
Angela’s Ashes – The Musical is a remarkable story, told with rare lyricism and a warm inimitable sense of humor as we follow Frank McCourt’s escapades and experiences in a Dickensian landscape peopled by a drunken father, a helpless mother, pompous priests, and bullying schoolmasters; money-lenders, dancing-teachers, and charity workers, culminating in his escape from grinding poverty to the redemption of a new life in America
Angela’s Ashes – The Musical is led by Jacinta Whyte (Titanic) as Angela and Eoin Cannon (The Woman in White) as Frank.
Also starring Elaine Hearty as Nora, Michael Joseph as Quasimodo, Domhnall Herdman as Malachy Jr., Shane McDaid as Billy Heffernan, Marty Maguire as Malachy, Amanda Minihan as Grandma, David O’Meara as Uncle Pat, Mark O’Regan as Mr. Griffin, Norma Sheahan as Mrs. Finucane, Brigid Shine as Theresa Carmody, and Sinead O’Donovan as Ensemble.
Angela’s Ashes – The Musical has music & lyrics by Adam Howell, book by Paul Hurt, based on the book by Frank McCourt and is directed by Thom Southerland. Featuring set and costume design by Francis O’Connor, lighting design by Sinead McKenna, sound design by Jason Fallon, movement direction by Ste Clough, musical supervision by Mike Dixon, musical direction by David Hayes, original orchestrations and arrangements by Colm Ó Foghlú and Joe Csibi, and additional orchestrations and arrangements by David Hayes.
Angela’s Ashes – The Musical will be streamed from Dublin’s Olympia Theatre to Irish audiences from 9th September 2021 – 7.30pm. The show will also make its US premiere as the performance will be streamed to New York audiences by Irish Repertory Theatre on the same day. Angela’s Ashes – The Musical will also be available to view on demand from 10th – 12th September 2021.
I’ve been told this will also be available to stream in the UK. I will definitely be watching this, I was lucky enough to see it in London, back in 2019. It’s a wonderful production, a really beautiful show.
