Ovation have revealed a brand new revival of A Drop of Fred for Upstairs at the Gatehouse, it has been announced.
The award-winning drama A Drop of Fred has been announced for Upstairs at the Gatehouse, as part of The Camden Fringe, which takes place from 1st – 28th August 2022.
Starring Billy Elliot The Musical – Live star Elliott Hanna as Simon Wishart, a young man whose obsession with Fred Astaire got out of hand.
First performed at the Edinburgh Festival, A Drop of Fred was acclaimed by the Scotsman as “a runaway hit”. “If you can only see one show, see A Drop of Fred,” wrote Scotland on Sunday, “It’s a wee gem”.
Growing up on Merseyside, Simon’s preoccupation with dance classes and nostalgic movies has made him the laughing stock of his class-mates and led to the end of his teenage romance. Tonight’s news, that the legendary Fred Astaire has passed away, brings Simon home from his job in a menswear shop in a rueful mood. Conscious of the gulf between Liverpool and Sunset Boulevard he wonders how different his life might have been if he had just had one drop of that great star’s talent…
A funny and heart-warming account of the perils of dreaming, A Drop of Fred climaxes in a magical display of tap —”the happiest sound in the world”.
A Drop of Fred is written and produced by Graeme Henderson & Robert Butler, featuring choreography and music production by Henderson and directed by Butler.
A Drop of Fred will play Upstairs at the Gatehouse from 12th – 14th Aug 2022.
