⭐ BEVERLEY KNIGHT & NTOMBIZODWA NDLOVU TO STAR IN UK PREMIERE OF MARIE AND ROSETTA ⭐
The full cast and creative team for the UK premiere of George Brant’s critically-acclaimed MARIE AND ROSETTA has been announced.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the roof-raising ‘godmother of rock ‘n’ roll’, influenced countless musicians from Elvis to Johnny Cash. This sparkling, intimate portrait of Rosetta and her beloved singing partner, Marie Knight, restores these forgotten musical heroines to the spotlight as one of the most remarkable and revolutionary duos in music history.
The show will feature live musicians accompanying Olivier Award-winning West End star Beverley Knight (Memphis, The Drifters Girl, Sylvia, Sister Act), making her professional play debut, as Rosetta Tharpe, alongside rising star Ntombizodwa Ndlovu as Rosetta’s protege Marie Knight.
Directed by Monique Touko (School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play), this production featuring gospel and blues hits is an electrifying portrait of the godmother of rock ’n’ roll.
The creative team joining Touko includes set design by Lily Arnold, costume design by Jodie-Simone Howl, movement direction by Kloé Dean, music Supervision, arrangements & orchestrations by Liam Godwin, lighting design by Matt Haskins, sound design by Tony Gayle, intimacy direction by Bethan Clark, voice & dialect coach Joel Trill, casting direction by Jacob Sparrow, associate director Jordi M. Carter, and associate lighting designer Teresa Nagel.
MARIE AND ROSETTA will play the Rose Theatre in Kingston from 2nd – 24th May, Wolverhampton Grand Theatre from 27th – 31th May and Chichester Festival Theatre from 25th June – 26th July 2025.
