The world premiere stage musical adaptation of COLD WAR has been announced for the Almeida Theatre.
Based on Paweł Pawlikowski’s Academy Award-nominated film, COLD WAR is an epic love story spanning the decades and breadth of Europe at its most divided.
Zula is bold and brilliant, a singer who ignites the stage. Wiktor is withdrawn and damaged, a composer longing to write. Irresistibly drawn to each other, they dream of escape. But in communist-controlled Poland that can be a dangerous thing.
Featuring traditional Polish songs, stirring choral arrangements, and music from Grammy Award-winner Elvis Costello, Conor McPherson‘s (Girl from the North Country) adaptation of COLD WAR is a compelling story of passion, redemption, and the journey to be free.
Starring Anya Chalotra (The Witcher), Elliot Levey (Cabaret) and Luke Thallon (Patriots), with further casting to be announced.
Directed by Almeida artistic director Rupert Goold, with music supervision, orchestrations & arrangements by Simon Hale, choreography by Ellen Kane, set design by Jon Bausor, costume design by Evie Gurney, lighting design by Paule Constable, sound design by Sinéad Diskin, musical direction by Jo Cichonska and casting by Amy Ball.

COLD WAR will play the Almeida Theatre, running from 30th November 2023 – 27th January 2024, with tickets on sale now.
