Rafe Spall will reportedly be starring in the iconic role of Atticus Finch in the highly anticipated new production of To Kill A Mockingbird, it is rumoured.

Rafe Spall

He would replace the previously announced Rhys Ifans, who reportedly had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

Originally meant to open in May 2020, Aaron Sorkin’s stage adaptation of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird will transfer to the West End, playing at the Gielgud Theatre, with performances tentatively scheduled to begin from 27th May 2021.

Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, published in 1960, explores racial injustice in America and features one of the most iconic characters in literary history – small-town lawyer Atticus Finch.

Directed by Bartlett Sher (The King and I).

I personally think it will be pushed back to later this year but even though it’s a shame Rhys Ifans isn’t able to star, Rafe Spall is also an excellent choice.

Of course, this is all unconfirmed but I look forward to seeing the show, regardless who is starring.
