⭐ FOREVER PLAID ANNOUNCED FOR UPSTAIRS AT THE GATEHOUSE ⭐
Upstairs at the Gatehouse have announced their Christmas musical, produced by Ovation, Forever Plaid by Stuart Ross.
When most of us think of the 1950s, we think of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Hot Rods, Elvis, D.A. haircuts and teenage rebellion. But there was a ‘flipside’ to this era – the side of harmony, innocence and the sincerity of dreams -when American families gathered in front of the TV to watch their favourite programmes, like Ed Sullivan or the Perry Como Show. It was a period when vocal groups harmonised their way across the airwaves and jukeboxes of the USA.
This is the story of such a group FOREVER PLAID.
There were these four guys, Frankie, Sparky, Jinx and Smudge who loved to sing. They all met in high school around 1956. Discovering they shared an affection for music and entertaining, they got together and dreamed of becoming like their idols – The Four Aces, The Four Freshmen and The Crew Cuts – although Rock ‘n’ Roll was racing down the fast lane like a candy-apple Corvette, they believed in their kind of music. Finally on 9th February 1964 they landed their first big gig – the Airport Hilton Cocktail Bar. On this day our story begins.
Forever Plaid was written and originally directed & choreographed by Stuart Ross, musical continuity, supervision & arrangements by James Raitt, originally produced by Gene Wolsk, performed by arrangement with Music Theatre international (Europe) Limited.
The Upstairs at the Gatehouse production will be directed by John Plews, with musical direction by Ian Oakley, choreography by Racky Plews and Eddie Slattery as associate choreographer.
Upstairs at the Gatehouse have implemented measures to ensure that the theatre is Covid-secure, including social distancing, temperature checks, reduced capacity, mask wearing & more.
Forever Plaid will play Upstairs at the Gatehouse running from 16th December 2020 – 24th January 2021.
