⭐ EMMA THOMPSON ANNOUNCED TO PLAY MISS TRUNCHBULL IN MATILDA MOVIE MUSICAL ⭐

Emma Thompson will play the iconic part of Miss Trunchbull in the upcoming film adaptation of the stage musical Matilda, it has been announced.

The part is known for being played by a male actor in the stage version and Ralph Fiennes was tipped to star in the film adaptation but director Matthew Warchus has revealed that the part has been reconceived to now be played by a woman.

Newcomer Alisha Weir, aged 11, has also been announced to lead the film in the title role of Matilda.

This new film adaptation will be of the multi-award winning musical from the Royal Shakespeare Company, which has a book by Dennis Kelly, original songs by Tim Minchin and was inspired by the beloved book by the incomparable Roald Dahl.

Matilda will be directed by Matthew Warchus, who also directed the original stage production. Netflix and Working Title will co-produce.
